In his new role, Baylock, considered one of the best young jazz composers in the country, returns to his Alma mater Shenandoah University. Baylock is also the Chief Arranger for the renowned “Airmen of Note” jazz ensemble in Washington, D.C.
Alan Baylock ’90 has stepped into the newly created position of Jazz Composer-in-Residence at Shenandoah University. Baylock has written compositions and arrangements that have been performed and recorded by jazz greats such as Michael Brecker, Maynard Ferguson, Arturo Sandoval and Al Jarreau. In his new role at Shenandoah, Baylock will compose and arrange works for the Shenandoah Conservatory Jazz Ensemble, and he will also teach several jazz courses including jazz arranging.
