Stewart ’17 Wins First Place in the Flute Society of Washington’s Young Artist Competition

Flutist Jessica Stewart ’17 won first place in the Flute Society of Washington’s Young Artist Competition, which took place during the organization’s annual Mid-Atlantic Flute Convention. The competition was open to flutists from around the world under the age of 30 who have completed an undergraduate degree. Finalists for the competition were selected on the basis of recorded auditions. The final round occurred at the convention on Feb. 18, in Reston, Virginia. Stewart is currently pursuing a Master of Music in Performance under the tutelage of Professor of Flute Jonathan Snowden, A.G.S.M. She was accompanied by Richard Jeric ’18, who is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts in Performance under the tutelage of Distinguished Artist-in-Residence, Chair of Keyboard Division and Professor of Piano John O’Conor, Ph.D., D.Mus., Mus.D.
