CWI Adopts New Vision Statement

CWI’s advisory board has been hard at work since its first meeting. One of its initial projects was drafting a new vision statement for CWI. The new vision statement better exemplifies CWI’s broad reach and ambitious agenda. Many thanks to advisory board members Blane Clark, Patrick Farris and Shelby Shrader for their work on crafting the statement. This new vision statement will aid CWI as it plans for the future. The new vision statement reads,

Educate, Engage, Empower, Encourage

The McCormick CWI strives to promote a nuanced understanding and appreciation of the causes for, conduct of, and resulting outcomes of the American Civil War through education, engagement, empowerment and encouragement. The CWI conducts, collaborates on, and supports educational venues; engages a broad array of partners, supporters and audiences in a journey of understanding and appreciation; empowers individuals and organizations to promote understanding and appreciation; and encourages the development, resourcing and conduct of programs and events that advance this vision.

In addition to crafting a new vision statement, the board is also developing a volunteer program at the Cool Spring Battlefield to enhance the visitor experience. The goal is to launch the volunteer program in the late spring of 2018. If you are interested in learning more about this volunteer program or would like to become a volunteer please contact CWI’s director via email at jnoyalas01@su.edu. The advisory board is also working to develop, in partnership with other organizations in the region, a series of outreach programs for area schools.
