Grant ’21 Nominated for Tony Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical

Brody Grant ’21 (Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre) was nominated for the 2024 Tony Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical for his work in the role of Ponyboy Curtis in Broadway’s “The Outsiders,” now running at the Jacobs Theatre. The production received 12 Tony Award nominations altogether, including Best Musical. Grant was nominated alongside Jonathan Groff (“Merrily We Roll Along”), Dorian Harewood (“The Notebook”), Brian d’Arcy James (“Days of Wine and Roses”) and Eddie Redmayne (“Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club”).

“On behalf of the entire musical theatre team at Shenandoah, I can say without question that we are beyond proud of Brody Grant and his nomination for a Tony Award as Best Lead Actor in a Musical,” said Director of Musical Theatre, Coordinator of Recruitment for Musical Theatre and Associate Professor of Theatre Kevin Covert, B.F.A. “It was clear from the start that Brody was special, and he was willing to put in the hard work as an actor, singer, and dancer here at Shenandoah to help fulfill his dreams. He graduated less than three years ago, and to make his Broadway debut as the lead in a musical is an incredible feat. His hard work and dedication to his craft are being so beautifully rewarded this theatre season. It is only the beginning for this brilliant young man.”
