Shenandoah Nursing Student Wins First Carter-Elmblad Family Scholarship
DNP Student Gina Stevens Receives Scholarship For Long-Term Care
Doctor of Nursing Practice-Health Systems Leadership student Gina Stevens, BSN, RN, RAC-CT, has received the first-ever Carter-Elmblad Family Scholarship awarded by the Long-Term Care Nursing Education Foundation. She accepted the scholarship recently at the 2018 American Association of Nurse Assessment Coordinators (AANAC) Annual Conference.
The scholarship, worth $3,000, “is designed to address the shortage of trained nurses working in the field of long-term care. This scholarship rewards a long-term care professional who is interested in advancing his/her nursing education and has demonstrated exceptional commitment and dedication to improving the quality of life with excellent care for the residents that reside in his/her home,” according to the website for the American Association of Nurse Assessment Coordination.
In other news for Stevens, she was also selected to participate in the Academy for Emerging Leaders in Patient Safety: The Telluride Experience, being held in Turf Valley, Maryland, in July.
Over the last 13 years, the Telluride Experience (TTE) has brought international leaders in patient safety, informatics, human factors, simulation and health science education together with patient advocates, resident physicians, and medical/nursing students to address important patient safety issues. Through the generous support of The Doctors Company Foundation, they will be able to fund travel, hotel, registration fees, and most food costs for medical and nursing students selected to participate.
Stevens was selected for this opportunity because of her leadership accomplishments and strong interest in and passion for patient safety and quality improvement.
