Conservatory Faculty News

“Accidental Openings,” an essay by Assistant Dean for Student Learning and Associate Professor of Theatre Carolyn Coulson, Ph.D., was published in “My Wandering Uterus,” a collection of women’s travel writing in various genres. The book’s title reclaims the phrase that male doctors historically used to explain any woman whose behavior did not meet social norms. Dr. Coulson’s essay reflects on the impact travel has had on her life, including experiences during her sabbatical.

Another essay, “Perpetual Invention and Performance-Based Research: The Case of The Ballad of Robin Hood and the Potter,” by Coulson was published in The Lone Medievalist collection. Her essay is a case study on working with Shenandoah Conservatory students and the performance of a fifteenth-century ballad in original pronunciation.
