Shenandoah Well Represented at Dublin International Piano Competition

Eoín Fleming ’20 advanced to the semifinals in the Dublin International Piano Competition (DIPC) and won the prize for the best Irish pianist in the competition, which brings him €1,500, a concerto with the National Symphony Orchestra in Ireland, a recital at the National Concert Hall in Dublin and 7,500 euro towards the making of a debut CD as well as the opportunity to perform many recitals around Ireland. Fleming is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Music in Performance (Piano) and studies with Distinguished Artist-in-Residence, Chair of Keyboard Division and Professor of Piano John O’Conor, Mus.D. O’Conor organized the DIPC, which was held from May 18 to May 29, and served as both its artistic director and also chairman of the jury.

The first-prize winner at the competition, Sae Yoon Chon from South Korea, also studies with O’Conor in Toronto. Chon was awarded 15,000 euro, approximately 50 concerts around the world including debuts at the Wigmore Hall in London and Carnegie Hall in New York and will be featured in the World of the Piano series at Shenandoah Conservatory in the 2019/20 season.
