Shenandoah Forms Partnership With Chinese University

Collaboration Could Include Dual-Degree Programs, Research and Faculty Teaching

A delegation from Shenyang Normal University (SYNU) in China visited Shenandoah University on May 8 to formalize a partnership between the two schools.

Led by Vice President Jinlong Xu, the group of four met with the leadership teams from the:

President Tracy Fitzsimmons and Vice President Xu formalized the partnership between the two universities by signing an agreement of collaboration.

Among the projects discussed were a big data bootcamp certificate, dual-degree programs, and faculty teaching and research collaboration. Faculty from Drama Arts College at SYNU will perform at Shenandoah Conservatory in mid November. SYNU also plans to partner with the Harry F. Byrd, Jr. School of Business to offer a Global Experiential Learning trip for Shenandoah students starting next year.

SYNU’s visit was hosted by the School of Business and Associate Dean of Global Initiatives Yvonne Chen, Ph.D.

SYNU is a top-tier university located in the northeast part of China in the province of Liaoning. It has 18 colleges and more than 20,000 students. The university is known for its programs in business, education, science and paleontology. In 1996, researchers discovered the first feathered dinosaur, later nicknamed dino-bird, near the university.
