Romano ’91 Coordinates Mid-Atlantic High School Flute Choir Competition and More This Summer

Adjunct Assistant Professor of Music Theory Charlene Romano ’91, M.M., coordinated the Mid-Atlantic High School Flute Choir Competition which culminated in a concert by 26 high school flutists from across the region at the Mid-Atlantic Flute Convention. The ensemble performed two world premieres, “Romanian Dance” by Gay Kahkonen and “Ruckus” by Nicole Chamberlain, both commissioned by guest conductor Dan Parasky.

Romano also continued to teach workshops in area schools, in addition to her home studio in Winchester.

On May 28, Romano was inducted into the Hermitage High School Band and Auxiliary Hall of Fame for contributions to the field of music and music education.

In July, Romano once again joined the faculty of the Frederick County Band Camp, teaching flute masterclasses, woodwind ensembles and flute extended techniques class. Romano also served on the faculty of Western Loudoun Band Camp, teaching masterclasses and audition techniques.
