Shenandoah University Announces New Academic Programs

SU continues to expand its already diverse offerings in 2022

Shenandoah University is pleased to announce that it is expanding its academic offerings with the introduction of new programs this year.

The undergraduate majors and graduate programs that were added during the 2022 calendar year include:

  • Bachelor of Arts in Contemporary Musicianship and Entrepreneurship
  • Bachelor of Arts in Environmental and Sustainability Studies
  • Bachelor of Science in Conservation Science and Management
  • Education Specialist (Ed.S.) degree
  • Master of Science in Applied Cybersecurity
  • Master of Business Administration concentration in Digital Marketing
  • Graduate Certificate in Esports Health and Fitness
  • Graduate Certificate in Esports Medicine

Additionally, Shenandoah is offering two new minors in Game Design and Development and Music Composition.

The Bachelor of Arts in Contemporary Musicianship and Entrepreneurship offers a dynamic curriculum that prepares learners to be innovative creators with exceptional musicianship, entrepreneurial, marketing and business skills – all critical areas that drive today’s music industry.

Through an exclusive partnership with Shenandoah University’s School of Business, learners also minor in entrepreneurship during their studies, providing those who choose this course of study with  robust, practical and rich training in marketing, branding, management and law, and preparing creatives to take control of their careers.

The Bachelor of Arts in Environmental and Sustainability Studies (ESS) is an interdisciplinary program that prepares learners to critically assess socio-scientific factors as they relate to current issues in environmental studies and sustainability. Learners will gain the knowledge, practical experience and analytical skills necessary to become informed citizens and effective professionals in their field.

The Bachelor of Science in Conservation Science and Management is a science-based interdisciplinary program that prepares learners to critically evaluate natural resource problems and solutions, and to preserve and manage biodiversity. Successful graduates will gain the broad knowledge, analytical skills and hands-on field and laboratory experiences necessary to be informed citizens and effective professionals in their fields.

The Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) program is limited to learners who are enrolled in the Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership program and have completed the 33 credits of required coursework in the Ed.D. program core, research core and applied research courses but will not complete the dissertation (retroactive to Ed.D. learners who matriculated in and after Fall 2010). The program is organized around interdisciplinary leadership content and research coursework that is complemented by a three-credit capstone project.

The Master of Science in Applied Cybersecurity is intended for learners with an undergraduate degree in computer science, cybersecurity, information technology, information systems, management, or a related field, as well as those working in industry who are looking for an advanced credential. This program prepares graduates to work in cybersecurity or IT administration positions, to lead teams of cybersecurity specialists, and for positions tasked with implementing enterprise cybersecurity policy and conducting incident investigations. Learners complete a set of core courses and then choose elective courses according to their area of interest.

The digital marketing concentration in the MBA program prepares learners for positions in digital marketing, such as digital marketing manager and digital advertising manager as well as consulting positions emphasizing digital marketing. The program provides conceptual and application-oriented knowledge of digital marketing, including email marketing, website design, online advertising, search engine optimization, digital analytics for decision making, and social media marketing as well as supporting tactics such as image and video creation.

The Graduate Certificate in Esports Health and Fitness allows esport athletes, educators, coaches and fitness practitioners to specialize in the health and fitness of esports athletes. The certificate consists of foundational courses on the core principles of injury/illness prevention, strength and conditioning, nutritional requirements, and the integration of mind and body techniques to enhance performance.

Similarly, the Graduate Certificate in Esports Medicine allows health care professionals to specialize in the health, assessment and treatment of injuries and illnesses related to esports. The certificate offers foundational courses on the core principles of injury/illness prevention, nutritional requirements and the integration of mind and body techniques to enhance performance.
