Takayama Records with Baritone Stephen Powell at Ocean Way Nashville Recording Studios

Victor Brown Endowed Chair in Violin and Associate Professor of Violin Akemi Takayama, D.M.A., recorded with Grammy Award nominee and baritone Stephen Powell at the legendary Ocean Way Nashville Recording Studios on the historic Music Row with Grammy Award-winner Steven White conducting last month. The group recorded works by Jules Massenet, Giuseppe Verdi, Ruggiero Leoncavallo and Gaetano Donizetti.

Artists including Beyoncé, Celine Dion, Alison Krauss, Paul Simon and Yo-Yo Ma are among the many renowned musicians to have recorded in the studio.

“Alan Umstead, the studio’s contractor, who has been running this business and playing as concertmaster for almost four decades, was kind enough to let me be the concertmaster of the group,” said Dr. Takayama. “I’m so grateful. I heard it’s only the second time someone other than him has led as a concertmaster there.”

The CD will be released in June.
