Flutist Yuan-I Jeffrey ’23 (Doctor of Musical Arts in Performance) honored and celebrated her Atayal tribe (an Indigenous population in Taiwan) culture through her dissertation topic, “Revival and Innovation of Taiwanese Indigenous Music.” Her research included a study on three ballads for flute solo and string orchestra, as well as the Saisiyat Capriccio for flute, double bass and piano. Jeffrey shared her work on Monday, May 1, during her lecture recital which featured music by Wen-Pin Hope Lee and Chun-Hui Lin, and collaboration with Assistant Professor of Piano Alexander Bernstein ’16, D.M., and Logan Unger ’23 (Bachelor of Music in Performance). She currently studies with Adjunct Assistant Professor of Flute Christina Bayes, D.M.A.
