Escalona ’26 Presents New Song at VMEA Professional Development Conference’s Composition Festival

Maximiliano Fernández Escalona ’26 (Bachelor of Music in Music Education) received an invitation to present a performance of his piece “The Two-Headed Calf,” which is part of his song cycle “Work in Progress,” at the 2023 Virginia Music Educators Association Professional Development Conference’s Composition Festival. This was the premiere of the piece, and Violet Neikirk ’24 (Bachelor of Music in Music Education) and Beda Vining ’25 (Bachelor of Music in Music Education) performed alongside Fernández Escalona on voice and piano, respectively. This opportunity was supported by the Shenandoah Conservatory Student Development Grant, which is made possible through the generous support of the Shenandoah Conservatory Dean’s Circle.
