Music Education Program Shines at Annual VMEA Conference

Shenandoah Conservatory’s music education program traveled to Norfolk, Virginia, for the annual Virginia Music Educators Association​ (VMEA) conference held Nov. 20, through Nov. 23. All music education students attended sessions and performances during the three-day event. Alisa Foyes ’27 (Bachelor of Music in Music Education), Grace Ritchie ’28 (Bachelor of Music in Music Education) and Joseph Goduto ’27 (Bachelor of Music in Music Education) represented Shenandoah University at the Collegiate Recital with a wonderful performance of Delibes’ “Dôme épais le jasmin” (“Flower Duet”). Alice Hammel ’87, ’99 (Bachelor of Music in Music Education, Doctor of Musical Arts in Music Education) received the VMEA Lifetime Achievement Award for her outstanding work in the Commonwealth, nationally and internationally.

“We always love to see our alumni at the SU reception,” said Director and Professor of Music Education Stephanie Standerfer, Ph.D. “We are looking forward to returning to Richmond for 2026!”
