CAP 510 Anatomy Lecture | 3 Credits
May 26 – August 14

This course provides an in-depth study of human anatomy with an emphasis on normal form and function as they relate to clinical medicine. Using a regional approach, emphasis will be placed on the relationship between nervous, muscle, vascular, and connective tissue structures and joints. Course material is delivered through a combination of podcast lectures, lecture synopsis handouts and clinical case studies. Upon completion of this course, the student will have acquired the ability to identify, describe and discuss the morphology and function of various body regions. Co-Requisite: CAPL 510

CAPL 510 Anatomy Lab | 3 Credits
May 26 – July 10

This laboratory course complements CAP 510 Anatomy Lecture. Students will explore preserved and prosected cadaveric specimens, anatomical models and electronic resources. Students will identify, describe and discuss the morphology and function of various body regions and their relationships. Co-Requisite: CAP 510

CAP 610 Anatomical Imaging | 2 Credits
May 26 – August 14

This course addresses the two major systems that regulate body function, the nervous and endocrine systems. Students will discuss the mammalian nervous system, with a significant emphasis on the structure and function of the human brain. Topics covered will include relevant cellular function, sensory systems, control of movement, learning and memory, metabolism, homeostasis, and nervous and endocrine disease.

CAP 630 Control Systems | 2 Credits
July 11 – August 22

This course, using a regional approach, will provide students with the opportunity to visualize the organization of the major structures of the human body using a variety of diagnostic imaging technologies. Students will visualize anatomic structures in various planes of section. Clinical scenarios will be used to promote retention and recall.

CAP 640 Embryology | 2 Credits
July 11 – August 22

This course involves in-depth discussion of the mechanisms and clinical relevance of human development in the embryonic and fetal stages. Topics addressed will include cell and tissue differentiation, organogenesis and development of function in the organ systems. Student learning will be enhanced through case studies and discussion of clinical correlations.

This course will help the health professional gain an understanding of the terminology and basic performance approaches in dance, including ballet, modern dance, jazz and tap; and music performance (playing of specific instruments).

Occupational Therapy

OT 765 Application of Learning Theories in OT | 1 credit

This course explores learning theories and their application in occupational therapy educational and clinical settings.  The use of educational technology will be integrated with methods of teaching to develop the skills necessary to provide effective and efficient education for the consumers, clients and students of tomorrow.

This course explores leadership theories frequently encountered in the health care environment, aids in identification of personal leadership style and develops within the student an understanding of leadership within organizations. Students will gain insight into expanding their leadership roles within the workplace and the profession of occupational therapy.

OT 785 Occupational Science| 3 credits

This course examines the scientific discipline of occupational science through a lens by which humans are understood as occupational beings. Learners will apply concepts of occupational science to analyze occupational behavior and the orchestration of daily occupations across the lifespan according to historical, symbolic, cultural and social systems. Learners will gain an appreciation of the primary mission of occupational science as related to the practice of occupational therapy while considering social and health problems of individuals, communities and organizations.

Post-Professional Physical Therapy 

PT 826 Management & Leadership | 1 Credit

This post-graduate course is designed to educate physical therapists on the elements of practice management and professional leadership. Students will explore the importance and application of various management and leadership roles and responsibilities through both individual and group activities. The course activities are targeted for students that currently hold or are intending to seek a position of management or leadership.

PT 852 Advanced Practice in Pediatric PT | 1 Credit
May 26 – July 17

This course is designed to provide the student with an understanding of contemporary pediatric physical therapy practice using an evidence-informed approach with an emphasis on family/child-centered care. The course will review the required elements of the patient-client management model (examination, evaluation, diagnosis, prognosis and intervention) as applied to pediatric practice settings and common diagnoses. The course activities will be targeted at students who are currently engaged in pediatric practice, with an interest in advancing to clinical specialization.

PT 885 Vestibular Rehabilitation | 1 Credit
May 26 – July 17

Vestibular rehabilitation consists of exercises to manage the disequilibrium and dizziness associated with peripheral vestibular pathology. The symptom of dizziness is one of the top three reasons why individuals over the age of 65 seek medical attention. These patients may be effectively treated with vestibular techniques administered by a physical therapist. The purpose of this course is to review the anatomy and physiology of the vestibule-cochlear system and then to cover this system’s physical assessment and rehabilitation.

PT 887 Women’s Health Issues in PT | 1 Credit
May 26 – July 17

The purpose of this course is for the student to acquire an understanding of the complex issues that must be considered when developing comprehensive physical therapy management programs for female clients. The student will review the unique female anatomic, physiologic and musculoskeletal changes that occur throughout the life cycle. The student will learn how to incorporate these concepts into the physical therapy examination of a female client with musculoskeletal dysfunction. Special consideration will be given to the following topics: pelvic floor dysfunction, urinary incontinence, pelvic pain and peri-partum musculoskeletal dysfunction – conditions which are unique to or more common in women. Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to incorporate gender issues into their management programs and will be able to design interventions to address the unique female dysfunctions listed above. Finally, the student will obtain the skills necessary to begin to develop and market a women’s health practice.

PT 860 Advanced Human Anatomy | 2 Credits
May 26 – August 14

This course is designed to provide the practicing physical therapist with an in-depth review of the functional anatomy and biomechanics of the human spine and extremities. This review will include examination of the nervous, vascular, muscle, connective tissue and joint structures of each region. Course material will be delivered through a combination of lectures, radiographs and video analysis.

PT 888 Understanding and Managing the Pain Experience | 1 Credit
May 26 – July 17

This course is intended to provide participants with a contemporary understanding of pain and the clinical applications of therapeutic neuroscience education in treating patients who are in pain. The course is designed to be delivered in an interactive online format and will utilize various teaching and learning approaches to make the online learning environment engaging. Research and clinical pearls from current experts on this topic will be primary sources of information and discussion for this course.
