Hispanic Heritage Month Kickoff

Kick off Hispanic Heritage Month on Monday, Sept. 15, from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Brandt Student Center, Room 123 (B-SAC) with Estudiantes Unidos and the Office of Inclusion, Diversity and Equity. Volunteer Opportunities with Just Neighbors for Latin Festival Fundraiser
Sept. 19 & 20

Just Neighbors, a nonprofit that works to build community through education, advocacy, and volunteerism, needs volunteers to help with various tasks for its Latin Festival Fundraiser at Braddock Street United Methodist Church in Winchester, Virginia. Just Neighbors invites the community to the 2nd Annual Latin Festival Fundraiser on Saturday, Sept, 20, from 4:30–7 p.m. at Braddock Street United Methodist Church.
This vibrant, family-friendly event will feature live music, a dance performance by Folklore es Vida, delicious Latin food from a local vendor, a silent auction, and a community celebration — all in support of critical legal services for immigrant children and families across the Shenandoah Valley. Lotería Game and Art Night

Enjoy a Lotería game night Tuesday, Sept. 23, from 7-9 p.m. in Henkel Hall, Hester Auditorium, Room 105. Lotería, the Spanish word for “lottery,” is a traditional game of chance often called Mexican bingo. Players use illustrated cards, and prizes will be awarded to winners. Dialogue: Cultural Crossroads: Where Latinx & LGBTQ+ Identities Meet

Explore the intersection of Latinx and LGBTQ+ identities through personal stories and professional insights shared at a panel discussion Monday, Sept. 29, in Henkel Hall, Hester Auditorium (Room 105). Topics include family, community and self-acceptance, highlighting the resilience, joy and cultural contributions of queer Latinx individuals. Hispanic Heritage Month Movie Night

A Hispanic Heritage Month movie night is being held on Wednesday, Oct. 1, from 9-11 p.m. in Goodson Chapel-Recital Hall. The film follows a boy who, after losing the grandmother who raised him, risks his life to travel to the United States in search of his mother, who is an undocumented immigrant working in Los Angeles. Fire, Moonlight & Majesty
Oct. 3 | 7:30 p.m. | Armstrong Concert Hall

Join us for an unforgettable evening of musical brilliance as the Symphony Orchestra presents a vibrant and evocative program. The concert opens with Rimsky-Korsakov’s dazzling Capriccio Espagnol, op. 34, alive with color and Spanish flair. Next, be enchanted by the achingly beautiful “Song to the Moon” from Dvořák’s Rusalka, featuring the radiant voice of soloist Cadence Weaver*and conducted by Jordan Wright. In celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month, Carlos Chávez’s Symphony No. 2 (“Sinfonía India”) brings rhythmic energy and cultural richness to the stage. The night culminates with Mozart’s majestic Symphony No. 41 in C Major (“Jupiter”), a masterwork of elegance and exuberance.
