Audition & Interview Requirements
Dance (BA) and Dance (BFA): Dancers spend a day on the Shenandoah campus attending dance classes, meeting with faculty and auditioning. Audition days will begin at 9:00 a.m. with the opportunity to hear from faculty about the Dance Division’s programs and opportunities, followed by a campus tour. Auditioning students will then take Ballet, Modern, and Jazz class with our faculty and some of our current students. Following the classes, students will present their 90-second solo and finish the audition with a brief 7-10 minute interview with faculty. Dancers and their families are invited to attend a dance concert that evening as part of the audition day activities.
All applicants must prepare a 90-second solo dance:
- First-Year applicants may use their own or their teacher’s choreography.
- Transfer students must choreograph their own solo.
- Music for the solo should be brought on a phone, iPad or similar device that can be plugged into a sound system.
- No costumes please. Solo will be performed in the same dance attire as the auditionee was wearing during classes.
Applicants must submit the following when registering for an audition:
- Artistic résumé
- Two current photographs—one in first arabesque position (side view) and a headshot
Follow guidelines on the SU audition page for uploading materials.
A printed copy of the résumé, arabesque shot and headshot must be provided upon check-in for the applicant’s audition. Dancers are encouraged to bring a bottle of water and any small snacks (banana, nuts, granola bar, etc) they prefer, as there is no lunch break scheduled during the day. Audition Dates
