Harry F. Byrd, Jr. School of Business faculty members were busy with more than classes this spring as they shared their expertise on the national and international stages, as well as a top online publication.
Program Director and Assistant Professor of Sport Management Fritz Polite, Ph.D., presented at the Marketing and Management Association Spring National Conference on “A Review of Sport Marketing Textbooks Used in Today’s Classroom” and “An Investigation of the Marketing Efforts of NCAA HBCU Football Classics.” Dr. Polite, Assistant Professor of Sport Management Joey Gawrysiak, Ph.D., and Bachelor of Business Administration Program Director and Associate Professor of Sport Management Brian Wigley, Ed.D., presented at the College Athletes’ Empowerment Conference at Drexel University on “Division III: Actual Student-Athletes in an Under-represented Paradigm.”
In more news, Dean of the Harry F. Byrd, Jr. School of Business and Professor of Management Miles Davis, Ph.D., presented “Islam: An American Perspective” on March 30 at Lord Fairfax Community College. His presentation offered insight into the experience of Muslims in America, Islam, Muslim-Americans and Muslim students. A Q&A followed Dr. Davis’ presentation. The program was presented by the LFCC Interfaith Alliance, in partnership with the LFCC Student Life Division, Shenandoah University’s Office of Spiritual Life, the Islamic Society of Winchester and the Valley Interfaith Council of Winchester-Frederick County. Davis was also a keynote speaker at the Entrepreneurship Educators Symposium at the Institute of Business Administration in Karachi, Pakistan. The event was sponsored by the World Bank and Enclude. Davis was invited to speak on his research on “Entrepreneurship: An Islamic Perspective.” Additionally, Davis was invited to speak to a dozen other universities and organizations while in Pakistan including the prestigious, Lahore University of Management, The Meezan Bank, and an Islamic seminary.
