Introducing The School of Education & Leadership

A name change has been approved for the School of Education & Human Development

Shenandoah University’s Board of Trustees has approved a name change for the School of Education & Human Development, which is now known as the School of Education and Leadership.

“We see the name, School of Education & Leadership, better reflecting our expertise and programming,” said School of Education & Leadership Director Jill L. Lindsey, Ph.D.

Enrollment in the school is nearly split evenly between education and leadership programs, including the Doctor of Education in Administrative Leadership, Master of Education in Administration & Supervision, Professional Studies Certificate for Licensure in Administration and Supervision, and Doctor of Professional Studies and Master of Science in Organizational Leadership.

The school also houses the Center for Leadership in the Public and Nonprofit Sectors. While the school is more well-known for education programming, particularly teacher preparation, “this name change will highlight the important role of leadership programs in the school and better communicate our full identity,” Dr. Lindsey said. The school’s shared mission is “to develop knowledgeable educators and leaders who are ethical, compassionate, collaborative and committed to serving their communities and society’s common good,” she said. “In addition, this spring we will unveil the first-ever endowed scholarship for our school and the targeted recipients are females who aspire to leadership roles in education; they must be enrolled in one of two designated leadership programs.  We see this as an ideal time to announce our name change and reinforce our mission to prepare leaders and educators.”
