In Memoriam

Nancy Stouffer Spanogle (’42), of Latrobe, Pennsylvania, passed away on July 20, 2017. She is survived by her son, a sister, a niece, a nephew and several grandnieces, nephews and cousins.

Constance J. Payne-Stewart (’55) passed away on Nov. 12, 2019 in Elkins, West Virginia. Constance taught college prep English at Bayside High School in Virginia Beach, Virginia, for nearly 33 years and enjoyed baking, reading, music and traveling. She is survived by her second husband, Arthur Stewart Bellington, and four step-children, several nephews, nieces, grandchildren, great grandchildren and many friends.

Joseph L. Lotts (’59), of Appomattox, passed away on Aug. 4, 2019, in Lynchburg, Virginia. He served ten years in the U.S. Air Force and was a United Methodist minister, most recently attending Memorial United Methodist Church in Appomattox, Virginia. He is survived by his wife, Peggy Crowder Spriggle Lotts, and three children, four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Walter D. Conner (C ’62), a U.S. Army veteran of Clarksville, Virginia, passed away on May 3, 2018. He was the long-time band and choir director at Bluestone High School in Skipwith, Virginia, until he left that position to create the school’s photojournalism program. He later taught band, photojournalism and yearbook at Oak Ridge Military Academy in Kernersville, North Carolina. He is survived by two sons, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Floetta G. Legg (AS ’86) passed away on July 24, 2019.
