The Mosaic Center is giving away 6 FREE tickets to seeSpike Lee’s Malcolm X on Sunday, Feb. 2 at 4:30 p.m. at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema (181 Kernstown Commons Blvd, Winchester, VA 22602). This screening is part of a Black History Month lineup highlighting the career of Denzel Washington and proceeds to benefit NAACP local youth scholarships. The first 6 students to sign up using the 2020 BHM Movie Sign Up Form will be contacted for information on picking up tickets. Black Music Mondays
Black Music Mondays are from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Monday in February. In celebration of Black History Month, the Mosaic Center sheds light on new African American artists with a table in different locations each week. The series culminates in a special performance on Monday, Feb. 24, 2020, at 11 a.m. in the Ferrari Room of the Brandt Student Center by some of Shenandoah’s own African American artists. Heartfulness Relaxation & Meditation
Heartfulness Relaxation & Meditation will be offered every Wednesday from 4-4:30 p.m. in the Mosaic Center for Diversity (BSC 120) beginning February 5th. You are invited to experience Heartfulness Relaxation and Meditation: meditation to empower the harmony of the body and mind. Each session will cover a different theme of how meditation can be used in everyday life as well as a short meditation practice. Themes include stress management, academic success, sleep, and connection with others. To sign up for this free series, contact email@example.com or drop in. Sessions will be guided by Dr. Petra M. Safe Zone First Fridays
Safe Zone First Fridays take place on February 7, March 6, and April 3. For time and location details and to sign up for a workshop, visit www.su.edu/safezone. Safe Zone at Shenandoah is a network of people who affirm and support sexual and gender diversity. Safe Zone members work to create a campus community that understands and values each unique individual. All students, faculty, and staff members are welcomed to attend a Safe Zone workshop to become part of the network. Make a Meme Valentine is on Tuesday, February 11 from 10 am – 7 pm in the Mosaic Center, room 120 in the BSC. In need of the best Valentine’s Day card for that special someone or even for yourself? Come downstairs to the Mosaic Center on February 11, 10 am – 7 pm to make cards with the funniest and most woke memes you have ever seen. 2020 Black History Month Show: #Seasoning is from 5:30 pm to 7 pm on Saturday, February 29 in the Black Box Theater. Everyone loves food, but who created all the lovely tools we use to create such tasty treats? We will be presenting a few black innovators who changed the cooking game forever with their inventions. You may recognize the appliance, but do you recognize the creator? Join us to learn about culinary black history through this student-produced, written and directed show.
