February 2020 Class Notes

Ronald McFarlane (C ’75) will perform during the Delaware Friends of Folk’s free Old State House concert in Dover, Delaware on Feb. 14, 2020.

Special guests, Alex Serio (C ’09) and Brad Tatum (C ’05) accompanied them, playing the trumpet and the french horn.

David Walker, Jr. (AS ’97, 02) was named the Grand Groundhog Watcher for 2020 at Concord University in Athens, West Virginia.

Jay Foreman (AS ’98) was named chairman of the Frederick County School Board for the 2020 term.

James Rohrbaugh (B ’98) was named the chief financial officer of Allegheny Health Network in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Maryam Tabatabai (P ’00) was awarded the Distinguished Alumni Service Award by the Bernard J. Dunn School of Pharmacy.

Ronald “Trey” Kunz (HP ’14) was hired as the performance physical therapist by the Philadelphia Eagles.

Vitto Amnathvong (P ’15, B ’15), Brittany Vogel Henry (P ’16, B ’16), Mahta Mahmoudieh (P ’16), Tsz Tung Chan (P ’17) and Matthew Henry (P ’17, B ’17) participated in the Fairfax/ICPH Pharmacy Alumni Roundtable in October 2019.

Jarred Boyd (HP ’15) is a performance physical therapist for the Memphis Grizzlies.

Thomas McFadden (HP ’15) gave a presentation called “The Role of Nurses During the Civil War” during the Ohio Civil War Roundtable at the Ohio County Public Library on Monday, Jan. 27, 2020.

Taylor Wagner (AS ’15) released her latest single, “Dear Secret Admirer,” on Spotify in early February 2020.

Anna Grazhdanova Billias (C ’17) will play piano at the Amherst Glebe Arts Response, Inc. and The Janet Lowrey Gager Community Concert Series’ “What the Living Do” on Feb. 16, 2020.

Tori Delaney (AS ’16, HP ’18) is the senior athletic training assistant at Coastal Carolina University in Conway, South Carolina.

Savannah Kuester Horning (HP ’16) is an athletic trainer for the Washington State University swim team.

Skylar Spitz (AS ’16, HP ’19) got engaged to Brian Roden (B ’17) in November 2019.

Thomas Taylor Bloom (C ’17) played Paul Simon in the performance of “The Simon & Garfunkel Story” at The Hanover Theatre and Conservatory for the Performing Arts in Worcester, Massachusetts, on Jan. 26, 2020.

Jacob Kramer (B ’17) started a new position as a project manager at Nova Solar, Inc. in Falls Church, Virginia.

Nathan Tabourn (B ’18) was named assistant director for student success at Shenandoah University.

Reginé Bumper (AS ’19) published her first book “Eye Remember the Paths Walked.”

Christopher Goodwin (C ’19) earned a spot as the management fellow for New York City’s LAByrinth Theater Company in early January 2020.

Brandon Nelson (HP ’19) recently began working as an assistant athletic trainer for Hampden-Sydney College’s football, baseball and swim teams.


In Memoriam

Doris Bell Barnes (’46), of Fort Mill, South Carolina, passed away on Jan. 7, 2020. Doris was an educator for 40 years in Maine and a life-long Methodist, remaining active in her church throughout her life. She spent every summer for more than 70 years at her cottage at Little Sebago Lake in Windham, Maine. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, antiquing, reading, playing games and traveling. Doris is survived by her son, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Charles “Liberace” Swank (C ’60), of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, passed away on Jan. 20, 2020. With his degree in church music from Shenandoah Conservatory, Charles was a pianist, studio musician, church musician and entertainer. He is survived by his wife, two step-daughters, four step-granddaughters and six great-grandchildren.

Linda Chambers Messner (N ’82, ’84), of Garden Spot Village in New Holland, Pennsylvania, passed away on Jan. 11, 2020. She was a registered nurse for various hospitals during her career. Linda is survived by three sons and three granddaughters. She was predeceased by her husband and fellow alumnus, The Rev. James Messner (AS ’83).

Nancy Winn (AS ’90), of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, passed away on Feb. 3, 2020. In her adult life, she lived in many different states, including Massachusetts, Connecticut, Virginia and California. Nancy had degrees in early childhood education and later went to Shenandoah University to become a reading specialist. She enjoyed being active, gardening, cooking, painting and traveling. She is survived by two sons, a granddaughter, her mother, three brothers and three sisters.

Elizabeth Erle Chain Howard (C ’96) passed away on Nov. 12, 2019. She was a music therapist, flute teacher and member of St. Timothy Episcopal Church in Denver, Colorado. Elizabeth is survived by her mother, her sister, her nieces and nephews.
