Sabados ’98, ’11 on Life as a Music Therapist Amidst COVID-19

Stephen Sabados ’98, ’11 MT-BC, (Bachelor of Music Therapy, Master of Music Therapy) currently serves as a music therapist in a Maryland psychiatric hospital.

I’ve had to limit the use of musical instruments to prevent the spreading of this virus. I’ve been asked to think outside the box daily. Extra, extra, extra hand sanitizer; disinfectant wipes; masks; and gloves are my new order of business. However, my music therapy education from Shenandoah University (under Dr. Michael Rohrbacher and Mrs. Rohrbacher) has provided me with the skills needed to provide the highest quality patient care as I face ‘new, uncharted music therapy territory’ in the onslaught of COVID-19.
