Sign up for Shenandoah’s First J-Term

Online Courses Range from Medical Ethics to Marketing

Shenandoah University will hold its first-ever January term, or J-Term, to provide students a chance to earn additional undergraduate credits.

The J-Term will be held online from Monday, Jan. 4, through Friday, Jan. 29. Shenandoah’s decision to push back the start of spring semester from Jan. 19 to Feb. 1 for most students made the new term possible. The J-Term is available for current and incoming undergraduate students.

We’ve been interested in doing a formal J-Term for some time, but our winter break was not quite long enough to offer one. Moving the spring semester to a Feb. 1 start date gave us this incredible opportunity to quickly put together a small but really impressive menu of online course offerings.”
Amy Sarch, Ph.D. | Associate Provost

The synchronous and asynchronous courses include an eclectic array of academic choices, including personal finance, choral literature, esports, psychology, the history of rock music and more.

Students are finding they can perhaps lighten their spring class load, take advantage of the ShenEd offerings, and/or satisfy a curiosity they may not have time for in their regular semester, like esports, telehealth or a one-credit dance class. There are numerous possibilities, and I am thrilled that so many students are taking advantage of what our J-Term is offering.”
Amy Sarch, Ph.D. | Associate Provost

The tuition due date to take J-Term classes is Dec. 15, 2020, with registration closing on the same day. The tuition rate is $165 per credit hour. Students may enroll in up to 3 credit hours.

Undergraduate students who are enrolled in both the January term and the 2021 spring term will receive a grant to cover the cost of the January term course (up to three credit hours). Undergraduate students who enroll in the January term and are not enrolled in the 2021 spring term will be required to pay tuition by Dec. 15. See Hornet Central or visit su.edu for registration details.

Please contact Associate Provost Amy Sarch at asarch@su.edu for questions about the J-Term.
