Peter Bullough Foundation Launches Emerging Artist Residency Program
The Winchester-based Peter Bullough Foundation announces the launch of its Interdisciplinary Artist Residency Program. Through these residencies, the foundation hopes to support emerging artists and scholars with diverse backgrounds and interests, and create a community that elevates voices that are underserved, including those of the LGBTQIA2S+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and/or Questioning, Intersex, Asexual, Two-Spirit) community. The program provides month-long residencies for emerging artists and scholars working in the following disciplines: architecture, literature, film/video arts, interdisciplinary arts, music, composition, playwriting, screenwriting, poetry, theatre and the visual arts.
Fall residencies take place on a rolling basis from August through December, and supply studio and living space, as well as a small financial stipend, for emerging artists while they pursue their craft. Each awarded residency period is four weeks long and is shared with one other artist in residence. The application deadline for fall 2021 residencies is April 30, 2021.

About Dr. Peter Gill Bullough
Dr. Peter Gill Bullough (1932 to 2019) — born in Oldham, England — was a renowned orthopedic pathologist, professor, scholar and patron of the arts. He held academic positions at Oxford University in England and Cornell University Medical College (now the Weill Cornell Medical School); and served as chairman of the department of pathology at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. Dr. Bullough retired to Winchester, Virginia, where he owned two homes that were featured in a 2012 Wall Street Journal article. He was an avid supporter of the arts and Shenandoah Conservatory, and established the Peter Bullough Foundation to support emerging artists. Dr. Bullough passed away peacefully at his home in Winchester, Virginia, on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2019. He was 87 years old.
