Gustafson ’20 Works with Piper Payne, Prominent Recording and Master Engineer

In August 2021, Colby Gustafson ’20 (Bachelor of Music in Music Production & Recording Technology) was hired at Infrasonic Sound in Nashville, Tennessee, as Piper Payne’s mastering assistant and a quality control (QC) engineer for the studio. As Payne’s mastering assistant, he is responsible for setting up her mastering sessions and taking recall notes of analog hardware for potential revisions, as well as exporting and delivering masters. As a QC engineer, Gustafson listens to outgoing masters from all engineers and ensures that there are no issues with the audio or metadata.

Gustafson has also been involved in the building of Physical Music Products, Payne’s record pressing plant. Upon completion of the pressing plant, he will work as a press operator and QC engineer for Physical Music Products.
