On-campus events celebrate Apple Blossom

From April 22 through May 1, the Winchester area will celebrate the 95th Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival. Shenandoah University is hosting several opportunities for students to get involved with the festivities. We also have plenty of on campus-events at Shenandoah for you to enjoy, ranging from a Dash N Dye and the Club Carnival to the Blossom Bash – and much more! Explore all the campus activities we have planned for Apple Blossom.

Bloomin’ Wine Fest Ticket Raffle (Graduate Students Only)

Friday, April 22 or Saturday, April 23 | Downtown Winchester

As Shenandoah University and the Winchester community look forward to celebrating the Apple Blossom Festival (thebloom.com) April 22 through May 1, Shenandoah University is providing opportunities for students to participate in Apple Blossom events and engage with the community. (The following contest is open to graduate students only.) Enter for your chance to win a pair of tickets to the Bloomin’ Wine Fest on Friday, April 22 from 3-10 p.m. or Saturday, April 23 from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. via this Google Form. Two sets of tickets will be raffled off to those who enter this contest. Check-in at the event includes age verification via ID scanning. This contest closes on April 14 at 11:59 p.m.. Winners will be notified on April 15.

Apple Blossom Dash N Dye 

Saturday, Apr. 23 | 9:45 a.m. – 12 p.m. | Sarah’s Glen

The Dash N Dye is a 5K fun run/walk that takes place throughout the Winchester Campus.  This event is free and the first 75 students to register and participate will receive a t-shirt. Participants are asked to wear white shirts so that the colors that are thrown show up as bright as possible.  Be sure to bring a change of shoes for after the event in an effort to keep our residence halls and your vehicles clean.  Pre-register by Friday, April 8 at noon to guarantee your t-shirt.  We encourage you to bring your friends and family to this fun event.  Registration the day of the event will begin at 9:00 am with the event starting promptly at 10:00 am. Blossom Club Carnival

Sunday, April 24 | 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. | Sarah’s Glen

Come out to the Blossom Club Carnival on Sunday, April 24 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. in Sarah’s Glen to play games, win prizes, get free snacks, and so much more! We will also have tie-dye! This is a great opportunity to discover new clubs and get ready for the Apple Blossom festivities. Apple Blossom T-shirts will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis to 30 students at 11 a.m., noon, and 1 p.m. that can be used during tie-dye. Questions? Doors in Bloom (Door Decorating Contest)

Monday, April 25 – Wednesday, April 27

Ready to get in the Apple Blossom spirit?! Get out the pink and green and decorate the door of your room, your office, your cubicle wall, or even your door at home for our online commuter students! Post your submission on Instagram using the hashtag #ShenUinBloom and tag @Shenandoah University to enter the contest. The winner will be announced Thursday, April 27. Questions? Spiritual Life Bloomin’ Movie Night

Thursday, April 28 | 9 p.m. – 11 p.m. | BSC, Ferrari Room

Join the Office of Spiritual Life and the Office of Student Leadership and Development for a special, Apple Blossom Movie Night in the BSC, Ferrari Room! Fifty free T-shirts will be given out at this event, and free pizza will be provided for all attendees. The screening will end with an optional casual conversation about the movie. Alpha Psi Omega’s Lipsync

Thursday, Apr. 28 | 9:30 p.m. | Bright Box (15 N Loudoun St., Winchester, VA 22601)

Lipsync honors the memory of Ira Lindberg Harris. Ira was a Shenandoah Musical Theatre graduate who was taken from this world far too soon. His joy and heart is celebrated every year through this event and the Ira Lindberg Harris scholarship, which helps make the joy of an arts education possible through financial assistance to a Shenandoah Conservatory Musical Theatre student. Students across campus can sign up to participate as a drag king, queen, or monarch and we invite the campus and local Winchester community to celebrate with us as our monarchs Lipsync for their LIFE on Thursday, April 28 at 9:30 p.m. at Bright Box (15 N. Loudoun St., Winchester, VA)! VIPs only from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m.; seating is from 9 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.  Questions? Contact Maya Bhatnagar at mbhatnag17@su.edu.

Blossom Bash

Friday, April 29 | 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. | HLSB & OBT Lawns

Kick off Apple Blossom weekend with Residence Life and the Office of Student Leadership & Development at Blossom Bash on the HLSB & OBT lawns! Heavenly Heart Petting Zoo will be back this year with Jojo the unicorn and other animals. We will also have axe throwing, 2 inflatables, a DJ, and Golly Waffles food truck. Apple Blossom t-shirts will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis to 30 students at 11 a.m., 12 p.m., and 1 p.m. Contact Brittney Burton at bburton@su.edu for more information.

*Rain location will be Shingleton Gymnasium. 

**Any hair color used by petting zoo is temporary and animal-safe.

The Apple Blossom Grand Feature Parade starts at 1:30 p.m. in downtown Winchester on Saturday, April 30. Students can watch the parade or be selected to participate in SU’s float and travel the parade route. The 1.5-mile parade route includes special and equestrian units, floats, and marching bands.
