Shenandoah University President Tracy Fitzsimmons Wins Virginia Business Women in Leadership Award

Dr. Fitzsimmons graces the cover of the July issue of Virginia Business

Shenandoah University is excited to announce that President Tracy Fitzsimmons, Ph.D., is a recipient of the 2022 Virginia Business Women in Leadership Awardsand is featured on the cover of the July 2022 issue of Virginia Business.

Dr. Fitzsimmons was among 42 executives to earn the award out of more than 300 who were nominated. Honorees range from leaders of small, medium and large businesses across a variety of industries, and Fitzsimmons was chosen as one of the 27 award winners in the large business category.

In addition to being the first female president in Shenandoah University history, Fitzsimmons is vice-chair of the board of directors of the publicly-traded company Shentel (Shenandoah Telecommunications, Inc.), where she is the lead independent director and chair of the nominating and governance committee; secretary of the Loudoun Education Foundation; and member of the GO Virginia Region 8 council.

To qualify for the Virginia Business Women in Leadership award, nominees must hold C-suite or equivalent positions at for-profit or nonprofit businesses or educational institutions. Winners were chosen based on overall career accomplishments, community engagement and mentoring work with women and girls, according to Virginia Business.
