Paula Allocca, Ph.D., assistant professor of nursing and director of the psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP) program at Shenandoah University, recently appeared on an episode of Peplau’s Ghost, a podcast that explores the use of psychotherapy by PMHNPs.

In the episode, which was released on Aug. 7, Dr. Allocca joined the show’s five co-hosts to discuss the profession’s transition from “therapy-forward roles to prescribing-forward workflows,” according to the podcast’s website, and the importance of establishing a “therapeutic alliance” between medication and human connection to maintain trust and facilitate lasting healing.

The episode also explores how functional psychiatry views symptoms as signals rather than conclusions, as well as the roles technology and artificial intelligence play in the professional lives of psychiatric mental health practitioners.

The full episode is available online at peplausghost.buzzsprout.com, and via Apple Podcasts and Spotify.
