July 2023 Class Notes

In June, Barbara McWhinney (HP ’66, ’94), retired after 55 years as a registered nurse for Valley Health at the Winchester Medical Center. (The featured image of this blog post.)

On June 14, Bobby Spiers (C ’69) and his wife, Betty Ann, celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary.

In June, Stanley McDaniel (C ’70) announced that his article entitled, “The Legacy of the Spiritual: An Introduction,” will appear in the July issue of the Journal of the Association of Anglican Musicians. McDaniel also announced that his book “Servanthood of Song: Music, Ministry, and the Church in the United States,” will be published by Wipf and Stock Publishers/Cascade Books in early 2024.

On July 10, Michelle Ridings Brown (B ’90) became the full-time director of economic development and tourism for Clarke County, Virginia.

In May, Melissa Legge Mauck (C ’95, ’97) graduated with a PhD in higher education from Liberty University.

On May 23, HCA Florida Mercy Hospital named Ben Warner (HP ’95) as its chief nursing officer.

On June 17, Jonathan Noyalas (AS ’01) gave a presentation on the First Battle of Kernstown at Sandy Ridge, protected battlefield land in southern Winchester, Virginia.

On May 28, Patricia “Trish” Epperson ’11 directed The Reader’s Theatre performance of “Native Gardens" by Karen Zacarias at Winchester Little Theatre. Scott Monahan (C ’11) performed in and directed the film, “Anchorage,” which was released in theaters in June at the Laemmle NoHo 7 in North Hollywood, California.

On June 17, Maya Loncar (C ’18) performed a guitar concert at Skaneateles Library in Skaneateles, New York.

On October 17, 2022, Brittany McGaffic Williams (C ’13) and Michael Williams (C ’11, ’13) welcomed their new baby, Quinn, into the world. (Pictured to the left.)

On June 22, Shenandoah University announced that Kathleen Lasick (AS ’16) will be returning in the fall to teach as an assistant professor of biology.

On June 6, Eric Gyamfi (B ’23) and Justin DiSantis (B ’23) were highlighted in an article entitled, “Shenandoah graduates and military veterans use Twitch stream to help fellow vets.
