Michael ForestAssociate Professor of Voice (Tenor) Michael Forest (C ’85, ’86) has announced his retirement from Shenandoah Conservatory during the Spring 2024 semester, after 30 years of dedicated service to its artistic and educational community. (Pictured to the left.)

On March 8, Chiropractic Economics announced Mark Callanen (HP ’99) as one of the guest speakers for Logan University’s 2024 Symposium.

On Feb. 26, Fauquier County Public Schools announced Angie Gum (AS ’01) as the interim director of special education.

On March 13, it was announced that Jill Pfeufer Fandrich (P ’01) will be exhibiting “Students: Who Connects Your Dots? A Complete Course on Critical Thinking” at the 2024 L.A. Times Festival of Books.

Clair McCoy McStacy (HP ’02) is the director of Midwifery at the Centra Medical Group Women’s Center in Forest, Virginia.

Students and faculty at VA NATSOn Feb. 23 and Feb. 24, Byron Jones (C ’04) and Melissa Chávez (C ’15) participated in the student adjudications for the Virginia Chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing conference at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. On Oct. 16, 2023, Mike Costello (AS ’05) was inducted into the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association State Hall of Fame.

On March 15, Carl Rush (B ’09, B ’11, E ’20) was highlighted in the Handley Notables in the Winchester Star.

Kerry Devlin and BookKerry Devlin (C ’14, ’17) co-edited a book entitled, “Music Therapy and Music-Based Interventions in Neurology: Perspectives on Research and Practice,” which was published by Humana Press. (Pictured to the right.)

From March 2 to March 10, Julia Hoffman (C ’15) performed on Broadway as Raza in “Casa Mañana.”

On March 11, it was announced that Nick Lenz (C ’17) will direct, choreograph and teach at the internationally acclaimed Stagedoor Manor for nine weeks this summer.

Michael Valentini (C ’18) interviewed the frontman of Mammoth WVH Wolfgang Van Halen, the son of the late legendary guitar player Eddie Van Halen, for the radio station WNOR FM99.

In January, Ting-Yu Chen (E ’19) and Madison Clark (C ’19, ’21) traveled to Japan with fellow Shenandoah Conservatory students, alumni and faculty, through the Global Experiential Learning (GEL) program, that fulfilled coursework in the Shen Ed Navigating Difference Sphere: Cultural Understanding.

In February, Drew Elhamalawy (C ’21) took part in “The Lost Boys” workshop in New York.

Jennifer Schaeffer (C ’07) is the director for prestigious awards and fellowships for Embry‑Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Brody Grant (C ’21) was awarded a 2023 Craig Noel Award by the San Diego Theatre Critics Circle in the category of Outstanding Lead Performance in a Musical for his work in La Jolla Playhouse’s “The Outsiders.”

On Feb. 28, Theatre 4the People announced Javere Green (C ’22) will play Aaron in their World Premiere of “Sperm Donor Wanted (or, The Unnamed Baby Play).” The play is written by T.J. Young and directed by Haley Rice, and will be performed at the Chain Theatre in New York, NY, from April 11 to 28.

From Feb. 22 to 25, Caitlyn Piedra (C ’23) performed in “BARBA A Brazilian Body Percussion Musical” at the Pregones Theater in Bronx, NY.

Jamie Shegogue (C ’23) has been appointed the first Pediatric ICU Music Therapist at the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center in Baltimore, Maryland.

Logan Shuttleworth (HP ’23) accepted a position as an occupational therapist for Aquacare Physical Therapy in Milford and Lewes, DE.

Sam BarthelIn February, Sam Barthel (C ’24) produced, directed and starred in his independent project that was performed in the Harold Herman Lab Theatre of the Ohrstrom-Bryant Theatre. The project was a production of John Patrick Shanley’s award-winning play,“Danny and the Deep Blue Sea.” (Pictured to the left.)

On Feb. 14, Connor Crotzer Scartascini (C ’24) performed “Songs from the Heart,” a special Valentine’s Day concert, at the Godfrey Miller Center in Winchester, Virginia.

David “DQ” Quiñones (ANG) was appointed to the Dispute Resolution Committee for Mechanical Licensing Collective.
