International Business Executive Justin Ding ’20, MBA, visited his alma mater, Shenandoah University, in Winchester, Virginia, on May 2. During his visit, he connected with the Head of SU Global and Associate Dean of the Business School Yvonne Chen, Ph.D., and he toured campus before heading to the Offshore Technology Conference in Houston, Texas, on May 6-9.

An alumnus of the Global MBA program, Ding was part of Shenandoah’s inaugural MBA cohort in Shanghai, China, in 2019. He’s now enrolled in SU Global’s Doctor of Professional Studies (D.Prof.) in Organizational Leadership program launching in June 2024.

Ding holds an undergraduate degree in business from Oxford Brookes University in Oxford, U.K., is a certified chartered accountant of the U.K., and began his early career at a U.K. security company in investment banking. His career expanded significantly when he joined Senti Energy Corporation, a natural gas service company, where he now serves as vice president.

In China, land resources are controlled by the government. In some cases, the government assigns the land resources to state-owned energy corporations, which own the land, buildings, and processing projects. They own all the resources, but they can’t do it all.”

“That’s where we come in and make a difference,” he said. For state-owned companies, the fees for human resources and administrative costs are quite high. We can cut costs, so we have the advantage of providing this service. We can also buy natural gas from oil companies, liquify it, then sell it to customers.”

Senti Energy Corporation went public in 2022, merging with a Shanghai Stock Exchange public company Jovo (Jiangxi Jovo Energy Co., Ltd), a state-owned energy conglomerate.

Jovo turned our business into a new field, energy service,” said Ding. “We call it the Energy Service Business Center.”

In his new role, Ding is responsible for two sectors of the newly merged company. The first sector is the Department of General Administration Center, which encompasses human resources, administrative affairs, legal affairs, and information technologies (IT). The second sector is the Energy Service Business Center.

“You can say I’m in charge of human resources,” he explained. “We need to design how to adapt our corporate culture and motivate our employees, basically connecting the dots. It’s still a rather new merger.”

While he manages this new organization, Ding is also excited to begin his doctoral studies in Organizational Leadership at Shenandoah University. He is interested in new research, developing synergies, and learning from U.S. field service companies in this emerging market.

I’m in charge of two sectors of my company, and we plan to acquire two or three more companies in the future. We will have to figure out where the market is going, and what we’re best at doing. It’s a new business, and I’m still learning.”
