‘So You Want to Sing Rock’ by Edwards ’15 Published by Rowman and Littlefield in Partnership with NATS

“So You Want to Sing Rock,” a new book by Associate Professor of Voice and Musical Theatre, Coordinator of Musical Theatre Voice and Artistic Director of the CCM Vocal Pedagogy Institute Matt Edwards ’15, D.M.A., was just published by Rowman and Littlefield in partnership with the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS). It is a completely revised version of the first edition, “So You Want to Sing Rock ‘n Roll,” and includes new chapters by Director and Assistant Professor of Contemporary Music Rod Vester, Ph.D., and Auxiliary Adjunct Assistant Professor of Voice (CCM) Jacqlyn Zito-Edwards, M.M., along with a chapter by Dr. Wendy LeBorgne ’94 (Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre) who is now a member of the faculty for the CCM Vocal Pedagogy Institute.

The book teaches readers to explore the full range of motion of their singing voice while studying the history and culture of rock so they can absorb influences and develop their own style. It has general information as well as specific insights for beginner, intermediate and advanced singers, along with those learning to cross over from classical and musical theatre styles. Dr. Edwards will conduct a panel discussion about the book at the NATS National Conference this summer in Knoxville, Tennessee, and present a workshop on story-driven singing with Zito-Edwards.
