Cox ’21 Wins Job with U.S. Coast Guard Band

Kurt Cox ’21 (Bachelor of Music in Performance) won an alto saxophone position with the United States Coast Guard Band. Cox is a Lynchburg, Virginia, native whose stylistic range includes jazz, symphony orchestra, traditional wind band, chamber music and contemporary music. His solo performance credits include the Evermay Concert series in Washington, D.C. and the Shenandoah Conservatory Student Soloists Competition as a winning soloist, as well as numerous orchestral appearances as a guest artist. As a chamber musician, Cox has spent the last six years spreading music to his community through commissions, premieres and numerous music festivals. Cox recently graduated from Northwestern University with his Master of Music under the direction of Taimur Sullivan and completed undergraduate studies at Shenandoah Conservatory under the direction of Chair of Instrumental Division, Coordinator for Conservatory in the Community and Professor of Saxophone Timothy Roberts, D.M.A. Cox aspires to continue pursuing further education, share his knowledge with the community and students around him, as well as continue to perform as a soloist and chamber musician.
