Hatfield ’22, ’26 and Holahan ’25 Perform with Charlottesville Opera

MiKayla Lynn Hatfield ’22, ’26 (Master of Music in Performance, Doctor of Musical Arts in Performance) and Reese Holahan ’25 (Master of Music in Pedagogy – Classical Voice) performed with the Charlottesville Opera in “Sing Me a Story: Your Journey to the Stage” from Feb. 21, through Feb. 25.

Your Journey to the Stage,” is an engaging program designed for students in grades 3–8, although impactful for high school students who are interested in the arts as well. This immersive Arts Education experience pulled back the curtain on opera, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the diverse roles and journeys that bring this vibrant art form to life.

From singers and orchestra members to stage designers and technical artists, students discovered the many unique paths that lead to the stage. Some performers began with classical training, while others found their passion later in life. Through live opera performances and interactive learning, students explored the works of composers like Bizet and Mozart, alongside insights into musical theatre.

The program highlighted the personal stories of the performers and backstage team members, showcasing how creativity, commitment and collaboration fuel every role in the world of theater. Students left with a deeper appreciation for the hard work and dedication it takes to succeed on stage — and inspiration to imagine their own creative journeys.
