Public Health Professor Has Work Highlighted In NPR Feature

Dr. Aaron Blight’s caregiving models earn mention in story about the personal impacts of caregiving

Shenandoah University Assistant Professor of Public Health Aaron Blight, Ed.D., recently saw his work recognized by both local and national media.

In early April, an NPR story written for its “What It Takes” series, a special section that focuses on caregiving, highlighted the caregiving models created by Dr. Blight that are designed for family caregivers and the professionals who support them. Blight’s models help these individuals understand and process the changes that caregiving has introduced into their lives, and may be applied to a variety of caregiving contexts. The models are available on the website for Caregiving Kinetics, a firm that Blight founded in Winchester, Virginia, to provide resources and support for family and professional caregivers.

Blight also was featured in a story written by The Winchester Star on April 22 about the upcoming launch of Dementia Friendly Blue Ridge, an initiative of the nonprofit DementiaMatters. Blight served as the keynote speaker at this year’s Caring for the Caregiver Conference, an informational event held in Winchester for people providing care for someone with dementia.
