Professional Highlights:

I joined Shenandoah University in August 2022, bringing more than 24 years of diverse experience in teaching, research, and industry to my role as Associate Professor of Cybersecurity. Prior to Shenandoah, I served at three other academic institutions, further strengthening my academic expertise. My teaching portfolio spans cybersecurity, computer science, and computer engineering at both undergraduate and graduate levels. I am actively engaged in curriculum development, contributing to the design of courses, labs, and academic programs. In addition, I am a dedicated mentor who has supervised numerous senior projects and master’s theses.
My commitment to excellence in cybersecurity education is reflected in my ongoing support of our cybersecurity lab, where I assist with setup and maintenance. I have been recognized with exceptional performance awards, management appreciation letters, and consistently strong student feedback. I am also honored to be a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA), a member of IEEE, and a Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) Fellow.

Personal Highlights:

Dr. Abuamara lives in Winchester, VA. He enjoys working out at the gym, traveling, listening to book summaries, and hiking.

Research:

As an active researcher, I have secured multiple grants to support my work. My research interests include cryptography, gamification for cybersecurity awareness, the application of blockchain technology in resource management, and the use of robots to enhance the academic skills of children with autism. I am passionate about fostering experiential learning and have created an educational YouTube channel to share knowledge and engage students beyond the classroom. I also contribute to the academic community by serving as a reviewer for international journals and conferences.
