Fields of Expertise

Relational trust is a dominant element in my daily work practice. How groups of diverse people come together to accomplish a common goal is fascinating to me. My research interests focus on how the intersection of self-identity and work environments determines productivity in the arts, education and organizational spaces.

Personal Highlights

As a former professional ballerina whose career was ended by an injury, during my recovery, I found a love for organizational leadership. I now specialize in building trust in professional environments. In my academic writing and teaching, I focus on the dynamics of workplace identity and relationships. In addition to my leadership and teaching positions, I work with organizations in transition through executive leadership guidance, performance coaching, board and staff development, strategic planning facilitation, and organizational diagnostics. My doctorate in organizational leadership supports my diverse interests that range from education and the arts to military culture.

Professional Highlights

  • Distinguished Alumni Award for Service, Shenandoah University
  • Wilkins Award for Service and Leadership, Shenandoah University
  • Chief Executive Fellow, National Arts Strategies/Harvard School of Business
  • Alumni Achievement Award, University of Mary Washington
  • Outstanding Service to Virginia’s Gifted Students and Governor’s Schools, Virginia Department of Education
  • Maryland Governor’s Awards for Excellence in Arts Education, Maryland Department of Education
  • Lila Wallace-Reader’s Digest Fellow, Giverny, France

Like many people in collegiate environments, I have wide-ranging, multifaceted interests. In most universities, my diverse subject matter expertise would not be embraced. However, Shenandoah University has encouraged me to constantly challenge the traditional boundaries of academic scholarship and teaching. Within a single day, I can be a part of an arts leadership team, teach a ballet class, develop a proposal for a youth arts initiative, design curriculum for advanced-level courses in organizational leadership, and mentor the next generation of leaders. I am grateful to Shenandoah University for allowing me to fully develop my talents — and for encouraging me to share them with students and faculty.”
