Algernon Sydney Sullivan Foundation Award

Eligibility Requirements:
  • The applicant must be admitted to Shenandoah University by March 31st to be considered.
  • A 500 to 1000 word essay demonstrating a thoughtful reflection on your meaningful contribution to and positive impact on the community, the role of this contribution in your development and personal viewpoints, and your continued commitment to service.
  • Two letters of recommendation from non-family members describing your character and your history and commitment to service-based activities
  • Deadline: Applications must be received by March 31st – Application

James A. Stutzman, Sr. Scholarship

Eligibility Requirements:
  • The applicant must intend to major in business at Shenandoah University.
  • The applicant must be a graduate of a local high school, including, but not limited to Clarke County High School, James Wood High School, John Handley High School, Millbrook High School or Sherando High School.
  • The applicant must have achieved a high school grade point average of 2.0 or higher.
  • The applicant must demonstrate financial need. Completion of the FAFSA is required to demonstrate financial need.
  • Scholarship recipients are required to maintain full-time enrollment as an undergraduate student and a GPA of at least 2.5.
  • The applicant must submit a 1-page essay and two letters of recommendation.
  • Deadline: Applications must be received by March 31st Application

Mr. Jim Stutzman was a native of Pennsylvania.  In 1980, he purchased Stutzman Chevrolet-Cadillac-Buick, then known as B&M Chevrolet.  He was a supporter of Shenandoah for many years, specifically giving to the Annual Fund and donating vehicles for use by the university.  He was active in the community, serving as President of the Winchester-Frederick County Chamber of Commerce in 1991.  He turned over the business to his children, Annie and Jim, and he and his wife, Carol, retired to Lake Anna, near Mineral, Virginia.


James R. Wilkins Scholarship 

Eligibility Requirements:
  • The applicant must intend to enroll as an undergraduate student at Shenandoah University.
  • The applicant must be graduating from a local high school, including, but not limited to Clarke County High School, James Wood High School, John Handley High School, Millbrook High School or Sherando High school.
  • The applicant must be in the top 10 percent of their class based on their high school grade point average.
  • Scholarship recipients are required to maintain full-time enrollment as an undergraduate student and a GPA of at least 2.5.
  • Deadline: Applications must be received by March 31st – Application

Mr. James R. Wilkins was a distinguished Winchester churchman, civic leader, father, and businessman. He served as a trustee from 1995 until his death in September 1996. He also served as chairman of the Board of Trustees at Shenandoah for twenty years. Wilkins Hall bears his name and his philanthropy in the city is well known.
