Santa Girl’s First Assistant Director

BFA acting major Darcy Pierce '18

I am the first assistant director and play the role of Deirdre, a girl that the main character Cassie (Jennifer Stone) meets at college and kind of butts heads with. Being on set has been the most incredible experience – it has been invaluable to be so immersed in the process as a student, working right next to professional filmmakers.

I think I have the most responsibility of any student because I have to schedule the crew, send out daily emails about what we are doing tomorrow and who needs to be there, and I have to be on set as much as I can to organize everybody and keep things running smoothly as the director’s right hand.

I have found that communication is key in this process and it is my job to keep communication open between me and the director and producers, and between me and the students so that everybody is on the same page and we can make the best movie we can. I now feel ready to step right into the film industry when I graduate in May knowing how the set works as an actor and a crew member.
