A Poem of Iceland

By Isaac Schrantz, Posting from Laugarvatn, Arnessysla, Iceland

We’ve entered this land of unknown
Without wifi, there is no use for my phone
Disconnected my mind wandered
Ancient sagas and the kings who are honored
Filling my experience
My resume will be filled with variance

High school is different in Iceland
Than in the US, people learn as a community
With very little distress
Mistakes are made knowing there will be grace
Leaving no one out of place

Self-sufficiency is a major key
People take off shoes in buildings
And walk around with glee
Giving a man a fish will feed him for a while
But teach him to fish and he becomes versatile.

In a world based on predator and prey
Iceland never gives a sense of foul play
Everyday feels like Friday, Hooray!
