Woke Week examines what it means to be woke and stay woke.
Each day you can participate in activities and events that challenge or provide awareness on social justice topics affecting the campus community.

Enter the raffle to win a Woke Week shirt each time you attend an event during the week. Participants who attend 3 or more events will receive a Woke Badge at the end of the week.

Monday, November 5
Woke Table

Where does the word ‘woke’ come from? What does it mean to ‘stay woke’? Stop by the table to discover the meaning of this popular term. Don’t forget to sign in for a chance to win prizes!
“Stay Woke: The Black Lives Matter Movement” Documentary Showing and Dialogue
7 pm | The Mosaic Center for Diversity (BSC 120)
This event is free and snacks will be provided. “Stay Woke: The Black Lives Matter Movement” is an original documentary film that chronicles the evolution of the Black Lives Matter movement through the first-person accounts of local activists, protesters, scholars, journalists, and others.
Tuesday, November 6
Wannabe Woke? Vote. Table
11 am- 3 pm | Brandt Student Center main hallway
Do you understand the power of one vote? Did you know not everyone has an equal opportunity to vote? Learn about different barriers people face to cast their vote and make their voices heard on Election Day. Don’t forget to sign in for a chance to win prizes!
Voting Shuttles
10 am-5 pm | Shuttles will leave every 30 minutes from the Wannabe Woke? Vote. table in the Brandt Student Center main hallway
Be sure to bring identification (Driver’s License, University ID, etc.) and know your polling location.
Election Night Viewing Party and Election Jeopardy
8 pm | Brandt Student Center, Room 118
The Political Science Society invites you to watch election results roll in and test your knowledge on election day fun facts, state and local knowledge and voting requirements. Woke Fair 2018

Learn about diversity through hands-on activities to increase understanding of how we all experience the world around us in different ways. Stop by informational booths featuring various campus organizations and departments. Don’t forget to sign in for a chance to win prizes!

How do you communicate your passion and knowledge about controversial topics with people who may completely disagree with you? Learn how to help others get woke in ways that will make these conversations easier with facilitator Maggie McCampbell Lien. Don’t forget to sign in for a chance to win prizes!

Love is Love and Gender Awareness Table
10 am- 3 pm | Brandt Student Center main hallway
June 26, 2015, same-sex marriage became legal. Yay! So, we’re done, right? WRONG. The LGBTQ+ community still faces discrimination in 2018. Stop by the table to learn information about government bans still affecting the community and the process of changing your name and pronouns. Also pick-up a pride flag sticker to show your support. Don’t forget to sign in for a chance to win prizes!
Mosaic Center Safe Zone
12 pm- 2 pm | Brandt Student Center, Room 118
SafeZone at Shenandoah University is a network of people who affirm and support sexual and gender diversity. Safe Zone members work to create a campus community that understands and values each individual. All students, faculty and staff members are welcomed to attend a Safe Zone workshop to become part of the network. You’ll receive a Safe Zone sticker to display as a symbol you are an ally who can provide support and resources to LGBTQ+ persons.
Let’s Have ‘The Talk’ – Communicating about Sex
8:30 pm | Brandt Student Center, Room 118. You know consent is important, but how do you actually get and give consent in a sexual relationship? Learn how to communicate and take ownership of your sexual experiences with facilitator Sarah Celec. Don’t forget to sign in for a chance to win prizes!
