Innovations in Advanced Practice Nursing Research Conference Held

The Fourth Annual Innovations in Advanced Practice Nursing Research Conference at Shenandoah University was held on Nov. 30 in the Brandt Student Center, Ferrari Room. The event, held by Shenandoah’s Eleanor Wade Custer School of Nursing, featured a variety of posters and poster presentations from nursing graduate students (shown above), who heard from several guest speakers.

Dr. Kim Curry, editor in chief of the Journal of American Association of Nurse Practitioners (JAANP) and a faculty member at the University of Florida College of Nursing (shown in the above photo in the front row, far right) offered a wealth of information about publishing nursing research. Director of Shenandoah University’s Family Nurse Practitioner Program and Assistant Professor of Nursing Elizabeth Courts, D.N.P., and Shenandoah University Assistant Professor of Nursing Lorena Jung, Ph.D., shared their findings on the latter stages of the Screening Teens Early With Identification and Intervention program (also known as the STEWii study), which screened teens for risk factors for the development of heart disease and diabetes and used electronic communications to help students develop healthier behaviors. The initial research on STEWii was published in JAANP, as was the more recent followup information presented at the research conference by doctors Courts and Jung.
