Romano Presents Flute Clinics in Local Schools and More Updates

Adjunct Assistant Professor of Music Theory Charlene Baughan Romano ’91, M.M., presented several flute clinics in local middle and high schools in January and February. She also presented a clinic, “Getting the High Notes with AIR!,” to beginning fifth-grade flutists at Daniel Morgan Middle School this month. Romano accepted the nomination for secretary of the National Flute Association last month. In February, her article, “Sight-Reading Duets,” on the topic of achieving fluency through duet playing, was published in the February issue of Flute Talk magazine. In December, she served again as an adjudicator for the District XIV All-District Band auditions.

Last semester, Romano also accepted a request to serve again as faculty advisor to the Gamma Gamma (SU) Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota last semester. She partnered with Assistant Professor of Music Theory Rachel Short, Ph.D., to host clarinetist and arranger John Romano, who spoke to both sections of Ear Training 2 on the topics of transcription strategies, his 24-year career as military musician and his current career as a freelancer.
