Shenandoah Receives Exercise is Medicine on Campus Honor
University is a bronze-level campus
Shenandoah University has been named a 2019 bronze-level campus by Exercise is Medicine on Campus (EIM-OC), a program of the American College of Sports Medicine.
Each October, Shenandoah’s Exercise Science Department participates in Exercise is Medicine on Campus Month, and promotes a host of activities for all members of the university of community. In October 2019, both University President Tracy Fitzsimmons and Mayor David Smith of the City of Winchester proclaimed the month as Exercise is Medicine on Campus Month and kicked off the month’s first Walking Wednesday. The department also ran an EIM-OC Activity Challenge throughout October.
The EIM-OC gold, silver and bronze recognitions allow university programs “to be acknowledged for their efforts towards building a healthy academic environment and be distinguished at the EIM-OC Recognition Ceremony at the ACSM Annual Meeting,” according to the EIM-OC website.
A bronze-level program must host at least one event/activity promoting physical activity during EIM-OC month, receive an EIM-OC month proclamation from a state, local or university official, and create campuswide exercise options, along with other promotional activities.
This past October, Shenandoah also won the 2019 Exercise is Medicine on Campus (EIM-OC) Mascot Challenge and the Exercise Science Department won a $1,000 grant to be used toward the development of an EIM-OC event or program on campus. Read more at su.edu. Check out the video, too:
