Sports in African American Life book coverAssistant Vice President for Opportunity Development Fritz Polite, Ph.D., MPA, and Director of Residence Life and Student Conduct J. Santiago, M.S., co-wrote a chapter in the book, “Sports in African American Life: Essays on History and Culture,” edited by Drew D. Brown, Ph.D., assistant professor of Africana studies at the University of Delaware. The chapter is “Social Responsibility and Accountability: Dr. Harry Edwards and the Paradox of the Black Male Athlete.”

“I have written several pieces on Dr. Harry Edwards, who is sometimes referred to as one of the most significant sport sociologists ever,” Dr. Polite said, as he noted this joint effort with Santiago, who is a doctoral candidate. “This compilation was a big one since many of these authors are considered top scholars in the country. I am blessed to have been able to work on this seminal piece.”
