Follow-Up to “What Now? Processing Racial Injustice and Discovering Ways to Make Change”

Virtual Forum On Wednesday, June 10, By Zoom

Message from President Tracy Fitzsimmons:

Thank you to the hundreds who participated in our “What Now? Processing Racial Injustice and Discovering Ways to Make Change” forum on Zoom yesterday. We had such an overwhelming turnout, and the forum brought to light many concerns from — and about — our university community. We appreciate everyone who participated, and are grateful to those who spoke with unvarnished candor to share the experiences of injustice and inequity in their lives, in our local communities and here at Shenandoah. Hearing you, and striving toward understanding, will help each of us better serve ALL of our students.

I want you to know that we will continue to listen. So, throughout the summer and moving forward into the future, we will continue this important conversation, having forums (both virtual and in-person) to discuss topics that are on the minds of our university community as they relate to racial injustice. PRIDE (the President’s Representatives on Inclusion, Diversity and Equity) will continue to lead the way in ensuring that we listen to your concerns and that your ideas turn into actions, policies and outcomes.

We, as a university, recognize that we can always do better and do more.

One topic of importance is the name of our business school, the Harry F. Byrd, Jr. School of Business. Please join us on Wednesday, June 10, when we will discuss this topic and how it impacts our Shenandoah University community. More information on this virtual forum will be shared in the coming days.
