Hanley, Author of Syntorial App, Meets with MPRT Students

Assistant Professor of Music Production & Recording Technology Graham Spice, M.S., invited Joe Hanley to be a guest speaker for his MIDI and Electronic Music Synthesis class on Sept. 10. Audible Genius founder Hanley is the author of Syntorial, an educational synthesizer training app used in the class. This revolutionary software teaches the complicated subject by ear, helping students recognize how each control of a synthesizer can be used to shape and manipulate sound. Students learned about Hanley’s background in music, as well as how he moved into developing and owning a popular software product.

Audible Genius creates highly interactive training courses to teach synthesis, beatmaking, composition and more. Its courses focus heavily on ear training, with the goal of enabling musicians to make the music they hear and feel. Audible Genius was founded by Hanley in 2013 with the release of Syntorial. Company developers have since expanded the interactive ear-focused approach of Syntorial in their latest course Building Blocks, which teaches musicians how to write music in a digital audio workstation (DAW) using modernized music theory and ear training.
