Faculty win top awards and see work accepted for publication

Division of Applied Technology Director Anne Marchant, Ph.D., (pictured) received the Dr. John Noftsinger Leadership Award at the Shenandoah Valley Technology Council’s annual Tech Nite event this fall. Sponsored by Shentel, this award is given to those whose “leadership has served as a catalyst for positive technology-related activity in the Shenandoah Valley.” 

A paper written by Assistant Professor of Applied Technology Mohammad Obeid, Ph.D., “Statistical Chest Shape Modeling: Application to the Evaluation of Pectus Excavatum Treatment Outcomes” was accepted for publication at the 11th International Workshop on Biomedical and Health Informatics (BHI 2020) in conjunction with the IEEE International Conference on Bioinformatics and Biomedicine (IEEE BIBM). Assistant Professor of Media and Communication Matt Corr, Ph.D.virtually attended the National Communication Association Conference (NCA) and won the top paper award for the Argumentation Division with “Debate’s Digital Crossroads: Exploring the Possibilities of Virtual Reality for Competitive Debate.” Dr. Corr also authored a chapter, “The Dark Side of Watching: Theoretical and Ethical Challenges of Live Streaming Suicides,” in “Legal and Ethical Issues of Live Streaming.”

An article by Associate Professor of Psychology Rodney Bragdon, Ph.D., “The Preliminary Development of a Scale to Measure Trauma Disclosure: The Mississippi Trauma Disclosure Scale,” has been accepted for publication in the SSRG International Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences.
