Lighting Designer Perkins Guest Lectures in Design and Production Forum

Kathy A. Perkins, M.F.A., a very well known and regarded lighting designer and scholar, taught a class for the theatre design and production program’s Design and Production Forum on Wednesday, Dec. 2.

Perkins has designed nationally and internationally at venues such as Berkeley Repertory, Arena Stage, St. Louis Black Repertory, Baltimore Center Stage, Goodman, Steppenwolf, Yale Repertory, Manhattan Theatre Club, American Conservatory, Mark Taper Forum, Congo Square and the Grahamstown Festival in South Africa.

She is the editor/co-editor of six anthologies, in addition to serving as a senior editor for the Routledge Companion to African American Theatre and Performance. A recipient of numerous research and design awards, including the Fulbright, National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), NAACP Image Award, the United States Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT) Publication Award, and the Association for Theatre in Higher Education Career Achievement Award in Academic Theatre, she has traveled to more than 40 countries as both designer and scholar.

Perkins is professor emerita at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Perkins’ guest lecture was coordinated by Theatre Design & Production Program Coordinator, Costume Designer and Associate Professor of Costume Design Jennifer Flitton Adams, M.F.A.
